New Barrel Rate Reprieve

The Jamaica Customs Department has delayed the implementation of increased rates for clearance of personal effects barrels. It says owing to the current hurricane restoration project, the new rates will now be implemented in January 2013. Persons clearing barrels will continue to pay the existing rate of J$5000 per barrel until 31 December 2012. The new rate of J$6000 will take effect on Wednesday 2 January 2013

Jamaica Customs increases clearance fee for personal effects barrel

The Jamaica Customs Department says starting November 1, the fee will be increased from J$5,000 to J$6,500. This is the first duty adjustment since 2009 when the flat fee was introduced.

Launch of the High Commission Hurricane Relief Fund

The Jamaican High Commission has launched a special Relief Fund in response to the significant damage caused to the island by Hurricane Sandy on 24th October 2012. Persons who wish to contribute to the relief efforts are being asked to make monetary donations. Cheques and Postal Orders should be made payable to the Jamaican High Commission Hurricane Relief Fund for the attention of the High Commissioner at the Jamaican High Commission, 1-2 Prince Consort Road, London SW7 2BZ
