Children's Passports
Q: I am a Jamaican national, do my children need to be registered as citizens of Jamaica to obtain a passport or travel document?
A:
Yes, the child MUST apply for and obtain Jamaican Citizenship prior to receiving any form of Jamaican travel document. Therefore an application for a Jamaican passport WILL NOT be accepted without proof of Jamaican Citizenship. This will not prevent these children from holding a British (or any other) passport, if they are so entiled.
A citizenship application takes a minumum of three to six months to process.
Q: What documents are required to apply for my child’s passport if I am applying for the first time?
A:
The following documents are required: Completed certified Application Form, original Birth Certificate or other proof of Jamaican Citizenship, parents’ ID, two photographs (one of which should be certified by the Certifying Official who signed the application form), as well as, the applicable fee(s).
Q: What documents are required to renew my child’s passport?
A:
The following documents are required: Completed certified Application Form, expired Passport, original Birth Certificate or other proof of Jamaican Citizenship, parents’ ID, two photographs (one of which should be certified by the Certifying Official who signed the application form), as well as the applicable fee(s).
Q: On a child’s application, where should I sign?
A:
The adult signing on behalf of a minor (the mother, father, or legal guardian) should complete and sign Sections C and E on the dotted lines.
