Children's Passports

Q: I am a Jamaican national, do my children need to be registered as citizens of Jamaica to obtain a passport or travel document?

A:

Yes, an application for a Jamaican passport will not be entertained without proof of Jamaican Citizenship. Consequently, the children of Jamaican nationals born overseas must first be registered as Jamaicans before a passport or other travel document will be granted. This will not prevent these children from holding a British passport, if they are so entiled.

A citizenship application takes three months to process.

Q: What documents are required to apply for my child’s passport if I am applying for the first time?

A:

The following documents are required: Completed certified Application Form, original Birth Certificate or other proof of Jamaican Citizenship, parents’ ID, two photographs (one of which should be certified by the Certifying Official who signed the application form), as well as, the applicable fee(s).

Q: What documents are required to renew my child’s passport?

A:

The following documents are required: Completed certified Application Form, expired Passport, original Birth  Certificate or other proof of Jamaican Citizenship, parents’ ID, two photographs (one of which should be certified by the Certifying Official who signed the application form), as well as the applicable fee(s).

Q: On a child’s application, where should I sign?

A:

The adult signing on behalf of a minor (the mother, father, or legal guardian) should complete and sign Sections C and E on the dotted lines.
